Paintings

These are my paintings, myworks of Art. When I paint I feel good.  Almost always, the act of painting brings me joy and takes me to a world that is plentiful. At the same time, it seems like there is an abundance of sensory overload stored in my brain that requires me to empty it’s content, spilling brilliant mixes of acrylic color, lofty shapes and strong lines on canvas.

Colors

Colors have always held a certain magic for me. Colors had me mad for them immediately upon opening a gigantic box of Crayola crayons.  I gaped at the waxy sticks of color, each one imploring me to grab it and create!  When I am painting I know that I am on the right path when I step back to scrutinize my work and my mouth automatically drops open for a second,  briefly replicating my first magical Crayola encounter.

When I began to paint in 2009, with Irene (Crick) Gouchie’s (mentor/artist) encouragement, a painting style began to emerge; yet, I pushed it aside.  When I finally realized this style had been shunned by an impressive caretaker in my youth, I embarked upon it passionately; thereby opening up a creative reservoir, that had my name on it from the beginning of my inception and subsequent experiences.

Inspiration

My inspiration is sourced especially by Nature – it’s perfection mesmerizes me:  a tiny seed and it’s fruition fascinate me; patterns on insects, foliage and flowers leave me speechless; lichen draped on ancient branches enchant me. Biota and colors are my life force: the strength of a tree; layers of shades of grasses; pine trees and their cones and the way the new growth stands up at the end of its branch like a candle in a tree; the simplicity of the dogwood tree flower draws me closer to gaze at its perfection; the hydrangea shrubs’ tinges of purples and hues of blues cue me into another viewing and wonder at its creation.  My soul becomes rejuvenated when visually and while physically soaking in Natures’ splendid bodies of water that nourish, replenish and sustain all life forms:  the oceans, the lakes and the rivers … water rushing, waving or simply standing, shimmering in the sunlight.

Upon moving to Vancouver Island in 2012, my West Coast spirit has been rekindled with vast beauty of sunrise and sunset; white topped mountain ranges; endless beaches and parks where paths covered with crunching everygreen needles provide a welcome mat.

My interpretations of the beauty that my eye takes in, with the utmost gratification, evolve when I begin to paint.
