cropped-mishakiki-and-coral-flowers

Coral flowers and Mishakiki was painted in October 2016 after a visit with my dear friend Jennifer and her husband Jim in Campbell River, B.C.  This is my favorite piece.

The focus of this painting is Mishakiki and I hope to somehow find a way for you to zoom in on this painting to enable the viewers to see my dear girl better.   I lost Misha in November 2015 and while she was ill, it was Jennifer who helped me through it.  I am pleased to have been able to depict Mishakiki’s beauty and the love that we shared, in this work of art.

The coral flowers were inspired while realizing that our beautiful coral reefs are disappearing.  As Forest Gump might say “That’s all I want to say about that.”

The visit with Jennifer was beneficial to me on so many levels.  Her and I were best friends in our early teen years.  We each experienced young love with our boyfriends then, who were also best friends.

During my stay with Jennifer and Jim, they graciously took me out to dinner to an incredible restaurant across the water from Campbell River.  We took a water ferry across the inlet which was an unforgettable experience.  While sitting on the deck at the restaurant we spotted a whale surfacing in the distance.  The evening was amazing and the mountains in the distance on Vancouver Island were captivating.   The meal was one of the best that I have experienced.

This painting depicts all of the above experiences, in a way that expresses my deep love and gratitude for being a part of my Mishakiki’s life and the joy that she brought me and too, my wonderful, replenishing visit to Campbell River.
